Spring is here! Time to inflate the tires of your bicycles, find your picnic basket, and locate the farmers market. The warmer weather just calls for us to be outdoors. So plan some dates and enjoy the beautiful weather. To help you get started, here are some great date ideas to enjoy this spring!
Spring is Festival Season
Festivals are abound this time of year! Check your local event listings to learn about festivals of all types. There are festivals celebrating art, music, food, film and so much more.
Get active outdoors
Plan an afternoon hike or bike ride through local trails, a park, or nature area. Check out local adventure parks and go zip-lining through the treetops. Or try geocaching and explore the community where you live in a new way. Afterwards, reward yourselves with some ice cream!
Play some golf! Golf now comes in so many varieties. You can play standard golf or the classic date night game of mini-golf. Find a course and play frisbee golf or try the latest craze, foot golf. And in select areas of the U.S. and Europe, you can play one of our favorite golfing games, Top Golf!
You could play competitive games in your own backyard or community park. You can challenge your mate to a game of bocce ball, croquet, badminton, or volleyball. Play one-on-one basketball or check out your local batting cages. Or grab some rackets and play a game of tennis.
Spring is a great time to attend sporting events. Soccer kicks off and baseball season goes into full “swing”. Betting on the ponies at the local horse track can also be a great way to spend an afternoon.
Or Relax Outdoors
A stroll through the local zoo is always fun in the springtime to see the newest little members who’ve arrived. Besides, who can resist the cuteness of the little red pandas?
Enjoy the sights and smells at your local arboretum. Spring is one of my favorite times to go when the tulips and cherry blossoms are in full bloom. It’s also a great place to visit when planning your own spring landscaping.
Whether you choose the beach, the lake or a nearby park – enjoying a relaxing picnic is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Pack a light meal or snack, or check out some of the items from the food trucks, if available. Bring some kites, frisbees, poetry or other items you can enjoy together.
The spring months often have wonderful stargazing opportunities. It’s usually not too cold nor too hot to lounge on a soft blanket with some hot cocoa or and watch as shooting stars dance across the night sky.
You can find outdoor concerts with just about every type of music available in the spring. As a bonus, many of them are free.
Catch the latest flick at a drive-in movie. If you don’t have a convertible, you can rent one for the day!
Turn up the Heat
Visit a farmers market to watch cooking demonstrations, sample the local edibles and purchase your favorites. Then bring your ingredients home and cook a romantic meal together.
Take inspiration from the TV show Chopped and create your own culinary challenge at home. With the same ingredients either bought during your farmers market trip or your own pantry, each of you create a dish using the same 3 unique ingredients in 30 minutes. Choose combinations of ingredients which encourage some creativity. Then, once your dishes are created, sample them to see which one is “restaurant worthy”.
Every spring, we plant a new herb garden. We enjoy using fresh herbs in our dishes and it’s so easy to just run outside for some fresh basil for a caprese salad. You can find fresh herb plants just about anywhere – your grocery store, your home improvement store, and at your farmers market is sure to have some.
Many wineries and breweries offer tours and tastings, where you can sip, relax and enjoy their creations.
Sample some new cheeses, chocolates, oils, or other culinary treats at a shop in your community. Some vendors even offer tastings and/or classes where you can learn more about your favorites.
Relax and Unwind Together
Schedule a relaxing couples massage together.
Explore your town or one nearby. Check out new stores, restaurants, parks and other places you’ve never been. You may just find a new favorite place!
Arrange a romantic stay-cation at local hotel. Lounge by the pool, enjoy a drink in the bar, have a romantic candlelight dinner in the restaurant – or in your room. No children, no television, no internet, just the two of you reconnecting and enjoying your time together.
Take a Class Together
Check the event schedules at your local grocery store, cooking supply shops and farmers markets for cooking classes. Look for spring related classes like tips for better grilling, or using fresh ingredients for the season. Some classes are even specific to couples for date night.
Learn the tango, the salsa or one of the many dances they perform on Dancing with the Stars at a dance studio! It not only brings you intimately close but it’s also a great form of exercise.
Do you share common hobbies or interests? Sign up to take a class together! Maybe you want to learn a new skill like photography or learn a new language for an upcoming trip.
